What are some possible things that do not involve any type of science or technology?

February 8th, 2010

As part of an assignment, we are supposed to give at least 5 things in our lives that do not involve any type of science or technology. I am a bit stumped. We use some type of science or technology to most things in our lives. It does not count if it used an invention to make it. An example of buttoning a shirt was given in class. At first you would think that no it does not involve science or technology, but the TA said that an invention (technology) was used to make the button and to sew it on the clothing so it does involve S&T. Please help me figure out some things!! After the assignment is due, I’ll try and give info on what the TA thought did not involve S&T in any way, shape, or form.

Ok, the big obvious one is Religion. though this is not always true,(as many religions are based on books) it is true in general. Though you could possibly make the argument that since religion requires some sort of organized method of thinking, it qualifies as science or technology.

Another one is any type of physical activity that doesn’t require any type of special equipment, such as walking, swimming, sleeping, etc.

Another one might be speech and/or conversation.(On the other hand, you could use the same argument as with religion.)

Hopefully you get the picture.

What kind of science and technology and did Peter I bring back to Russia from the West?

February 5th, 2010

This is a homework question from school. Any kind of science and technology having to do with Russia between 1500 and 1715 would be nice too. Thanks.

A lot of new ideas to advance Russia from a peasant country to an industrialized country. He personally was working in the ship building industry in Holland (Netherlands) and was very active to transfer that specific technology to Russia.
